Visiting Carol in Washington

October 2001: We were still a little nervous about flying, but carried through on our plans to visit our friend Carol Butz, who had moved to Bellingham, WA.  She promised there was a mountain nearby, so we went looking for it.

Mostly we saw weather.

We finally got a break and could see the peak of Mt. Baker.

Lower down the mountain were enormous trees,

and abundant mushrooms.  This is the angel's wings we ate so many of.

Later we drove over to the rain forest area of the Olympic peninsula.

More mushrooms.

Coffee is a Washington thing.  This kiosk is in town, but we saw dozens of then in the unlikeliest places - small towns, farms, nurseries - you name it.
