Grandmother Bottorff's Sugar Cookies
as made by Amanda Lenora Bottorff (Aunt Nora)
1 cup butter,
creamed (margarine is okay)
2 cups granulated
sugar
4 whole eggs,
beaten
1 teaspoon baking
soda (dissolved in 2 Tablespoons water)
2 teaspoons
vanilla
2 teaspoons ground
nutmeg
Flour sufficient
for handling, about 7 cups
Most of the time,
we cut it in half, because it makes so many cookies.
Cream the butter
with the sugar, add the eggs, add the soda liquid and the vanilla, then
sift the dry ingredients together, and add a little at a time.
When you have the dough at the proper consistency, roll it on a floured
breadboard,
about 1/8th inch
thick. Cut cookies with your favorite cookie cutter,
place on greased
baking sheets. Bake at 375 F. about 7 minutes.
